And now let's get all excited for packing and preparing for our getaways and relax(finally!) from work. If you are still in school, you're lucky to extend your vacation a bit longer than everyone else(we are jealous...). However, if you can only take the weekend off, here are some ideas to inspire your next trip.
Yes. A road road trip. As cliché as it may sound, a road trip is one of the best methods to help de-stress and get closer with the nature, hence, cleansing our body and mind from all the junk we might have dealing with work, people and dramas in real life.
California State Route 1
The route along the Pacific coast between Dana Point, north of San Diego, and Leggett, in the heart of northern California’s redwood country, is recommended if you live on the west coast or you enjoy sideways and sea views. You’ll get plenty of sunlight driving this way in the summer, and you’ll pass through Long Beach, Santa Monica, Malibu, Santa Barbara's wine country, Santa Cruz, Big Sur, San Francisco and the Point Reyes National Seashore. Literally everyone knows this route. Many movies, books, music have added entertaining elements to it. Created in 1926 as one of the first numbered highways, not only is it endowed with a profound meaning as before then, American roads were recognized by colored bands on telegraph poles and were often maintained by private individuals. For a short vacation like Memorial Day Weekend, we recommend only drive the part that is the most convenient to your living location. Working out the distance might take some extra homework, we also recommend using online tools like: The Route 66 Planner and Historic 66.

Hike a New Trail
Whether it is the mountain next to where you live or the Yosemite that is sitting around in your bucket list for too long but never get checked out, the Memorial Day Weekend is the best time to hike. Perfect weather (if it’s not raining), most places are not scorching hot yet so you won’t get super sweaty even during noon - the sun peak. Prepare the essentials for camping as well. If you are up for it, you can also prepare to have an old-fashioned cooking session over an open fire. We recommend you to look at some tips if you have never done it before: Cooking over Coals. The Gearweare blog creates some of the best content online for the outdoor world, we love their reviews on an array of outdoor products and also their insights on different activities, knowledge on wild food and passion for the outdoor.
Plan a BBQ Cookout
Even if you are not a good cook, but having friends over for a cool summer night cookout is something relaxing and fun to do. Not a large crowd, but a couple of close friends. This way, you don’t have to put up with more stress to think about if you prepare enough food and drinks for everyone. Start planning by thinking about how many guests you are inviting and slowly develop the menu. If you are not sure about the recipes, we recommend to check out these delicious recipes to try out: Delish Summer Holiday Cookout Menus, Kraft Summer Cookout Recipes.
See a Memorial Day Parade
If you live in New York City, Yonkers, or New Jersey, you might be interested in checking out the biggest Memorial Day parade in Queens. It starts at 1pm on Grand Ave. at 72nd St. in Queens on Monday, May 29 at 2 p.m. There are many other parades spreading across the city. If you want more specific time information, you can also check out Time Out NYC.
Have Yourself a Relax Weekend Getaway
If you want to travel somewhere further, it’s best to plan in advance. The first thing to do, is of course, picking out a destination. There’re plenty of choices regardless if you’re looking for somewhere cozy or extoic. We recommend going to Miami if you plan to stay in the country. Miami, around this time of the year, has the perfect weather for everyone to enjoy. Not too humid, comfortable temperature, fewer crowds and cheaper hotel rates. If you have the budget to travel abroad, we recommend Riviera Mayo in Mexico, which has some of the most amazing resorts and at lower rates for this period of time. If you want to discover more destination to go to, we recommend reading the 20 of the Best Memorial Day Weekend Getaways by Trip Discover.
